KerryMike’s Thoughts on E3 2014

E3 2014 has come and gone. It was an exciting week full of great games and big announcements. There is so much I could discuss but I will stick to the games that stood out to me the most. Also throw in some other thoughts.

Zelda (Wii U) – I am cautiously optimistic for this title…. But I admit that it looks really RAD. Did you see the individual blades of grass swaying in the wind? The visuals look gorgeous and the thought of having a vast open world to explore and enjoy gives me goose bumps. But Zelda needs change. An overhaul really. Games have advanced in so many ways over the years. Story, voice acting, visuals, and gameplay have all evolved over recent years. Zelda boasts innovative gameplay and visuals haven’t been a problem but what about other areas? Give characters voices and dialog instead of weird grunts and screams. What about a riveting story that goes beyond Ganon wanting a Triforce to rule the world? It’s time for Zelda to advance and grow up. So far I like the direction, especially featuring maybe a heroine instead of a silent hero??? I am hoping that risks are taken and I have a reason to buy a Wii U come release.

No Man’s Sky (PS4) – I don’t even know where to begin with this game. At first glance it comes across as a flying game. Dog fighting in space doesn’t sound too bad. But then I learned there would be exploration of planets by ship and by foot. What’s more, each planet has its own indigenous life forms to research and observe. Players will have an opportunity to cross paths with other players and what happens then is anyone’s guess. Fight, join forces, dance? The possibilities seems endless. It’s so refreshing to see indie devs such as Hello games create unique experiences to enjoy with others.

Metal Gear Solid V – I’m a sucker for Metal Gear. The stories are convoluted and over the top but thats Metal Gear and I love it that way. But after playing a bit of Ground Zeroes everything seems different. Controls are revamped and the environments are bigger than ever. An open world Metal Gear is something I can’t even grasp at this time. What will we be able to do in an open world of Metal Gear? And will the story feature a young Solid, Liquid and Solidus? I pray it does!

Over the next year we will get a hold of some great games that will keep us parked on the couch for hours. Here is a list of some of my highly anticipated titles:

Dragon Age Inquisition
The Witcher 3
LittleBigPlanet 3
Batman Arkham Knight
Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD

Share the games you are looking forward to in the comments!
