Let’s drop the F Bomb (Fanboy) The word has been around for a long time and thrown around in a negative way but is it?

  1. What is a Fanboy? Urbandictionary.com = Fanboy

An extreme fan or follower of a particular medium or concept, whether it be sports, television, film directors, video games (the most common usage), etc.

Known for a complete lack of objectivity in relation to their preferred focus. Usually argue with circular logic that they refuse to acknowledge. Arguments or debates with such are usually futile. Every flaw is spun into semi-virtues and everything else, blown to comedic, complementary proportions.

Known for using the phrase “Object of affection = Best Ever”

However, while people only really say that as hyperbole, fanboys truly believe it.

Troll the internet to spread the gospel.

Insult/chastise others for using public forums to express an objective opinion, no matter how constructive or, respectful it may be. (Go ahead and admit that it’s a good game/movie/etc. This fact and anything else will be promptly ignored in favor of cherry picking the negative, and beating you over the head with it.

Tend to resort to petty annoyance replies when backed against the wall. Usually grammar attacks and non-replies.

    1. Chevy vs Ford, Sega vs Nintendo, East Coast vs West Coast, etc. you have fans you have varying degrees of fans casual fans, moderate fans, extreme fans, die-hard fans, insane fans and everywhere in between. And that is okay. It doesn’t mean that people on other ends of the spectrum won’t disagree with you or maybe even agree with you on your opinions. There is that famous saying “Opinions are like…(A-something) everybody has one and they think each others stink.” Own your opinions, have fun with it, let someone else express theirs, you can challenge them, laugh at each other, don’t be mean about it, don’t be the fun police either, be a fan… and if someone drops that F-bomb (FANBOY) and either where that stuff with pride or consider your stance (Am I being more than just a fan?). You have permission to come out of the Fanboy closet and march in that parade. It’s okay to like something, be a fan, you permission from the video game Gods… go ahead. Just don’t be a jerk about it.
    2. How do you feel when someone tells you your favorite football team sucks? Or the CATCH Dez made wasn’t a catch and Faitios won’t stop laughing about it?

I have a coworker that doesn’t follow sports and misses out on all that fan banter. After E3 he couldn’t wait to engage and debate the greatness if Nintendo and how awesome Sony was. He said E3 was his Super Bowl.

    1. Have you ever been called a ‘Fanboy’? – How does it feel? How did you react?
    2. Denying that you are above brand loyalty or that because you own the multiple brands at ‘war’ creates another type of Fanboyish stereotype. The Faux Anti-Fanboy which makes someone feel entitled to a higher opinion because they have a foot on both sides of the line but CLEARLY are in one camp or another.
